Discover the Lake Tanganyika cichlid, found throughout the region with a type locality in Kasanga, Tanzania. This stunning fish thrives in rocky shoreline substrates, making it an ideal aquarium addition. For optimal breeding behaviour, select a tank with base dimensions of 130 30 cm, and arrange piles of rocks to create caves for the fish to shelter in. A sandy substrate enhances the natural habitat. Due to its aggressive territorial behaviour, this species is best suited for a species tank. However, it can be paired with other minor to medium-sized Tanganyikan cichlids with distinct territory areas.

As for feeding, include live and frozen foods in their diet. Dried foods can be included but in moderation, and add some vegetable matter like spirulina or blanched spinach.

For breeding, the Brichardi cichlid is a substrate-spawner. Expect the fish to swim together as a group and pair off for reproduction, with the female laying eggs on the wall or roof of a cave they excavated. With proper care, the female will tend to the eggs while the male guards the area around the cave until the eggs hatch in 2-3 days, with the fry becoming free swimming around day seven. So if you want to add a beautiful, cooperative-breeding cichlid to your tank, the Lake Tanganyika cichlid is an excellent choice.

Our fish are quarantined on arrival for two weeks. During this time, we treat any health issues that may occur during transport and ensure each fish is eating well and looking healthy.  All fish are treated with Flubendazole before finally going on sale.
