The Emerald Green Cory is one of the more widely spread species found through the Amazon River tributaries, small lakes and backwaters. They are often found in groups of hundreds and in shallow slow pools.
When adding them to the home aquarium, it is very important to know that these catfish sift through the substrate for food. We strongly recommend using a soft sandy substrate to support this natural behaviour. Aquatic plants are not essential but can be added for decoration purposes. If plants are added, be sure to maintain an open space for the Corydoras to swim and search for food together.
A peaceful fish that remains on the substrate almost entirely only nipping up to the surface for a quick gulp of air. Fish such as Angels, Discus and most Tetras all make the ideal tankmates. Corydoras are often added to Discus aquariums to assist with any leftover food. This is ok however it is not ok to allow the Corydoras to live on these leftovers alone. Their diet should be made up of quality dry catfish foods (FishScience Corydoras Tablets are a great choice), live bloodworm, blackworm etc
Surprisingly, these bottom-dwelling catfish lay their eggs high up on the side of the aquarium glass. This makes the eggs very convenient for removing and placing in a secondary aquarium. To condition, these Corydoras for breeding, reduce the water level and slowly add colder water back in to simulate the rainy season. Additionally, lots of live foods should be offered throughout.
