The Liquorice Gourami is a small fish best suited to an aquarium with lots of leaf litter and a mixture of botanicals scattered across the bottom of the aquarium. As the leaves decay, they release tannin, turning the water into a tea colour. This is similar to their natural habitat and will enhance their colour and behaviour.

In the wild, they feed on tiny insects and crustaceans that live among the leaves and plants. This can be replicated by offering live brine shrimp and daphnia. A quality protein-rich flake food can also be offered.

Due to their size, keeping them in a species-only setup is best. This does not mean a boring aquarium by any means. Provide these little fish with the right conditions, and they will surprise you. They are very entertaining and rewarding when thriving.

Breeding is not usually too difficult. Adults will form pairs for spawning, which will occur among the leaf litter. Males will care for eggs and fry on their own.

All our fish are quarantined on arrival for two weeks. During this time, we treat any health issues that may occur during transport and ensure each fish is eating well and looking healthy. In addition, all fish are treated with Flubendazole before finally going on sale.
