The Pretty Tetra is a lively fish that, suitable for most standard community aquariums. Although not too fussy about their surroundings, they look their best when kept in a heavily planted tank alongside small livebearers and bottom dwellers such as Corydoras.
An ideal aquarium should consist of a fine sandy substrate and a variety of driftwood pieces. Dense Stem plants provide a great backdrop that will help to bring out the real beauty of these lovely little fish.
The diet of the Pretty Tetra includes a wide variety of tiny insects, crustaceans and anything they can find. This should be provided in the form of live foods like Daphnia, Brineshrimp and bloodworm. The frozen equivalent is also acceptable. Quality dry foods like flake and granules can also offer a balanced diet in the home aquarium.
It is possible to breed the Pretty Tetra in the home aquarium in a similar way to other egg scattering species. Setting up an aquarium with large grain gravel or mesh on the bottom to allow eggs to fall into will increase the survival rate of fry. Success has also been noted with the use of fine-leaved plants or spawning mops.
All our fish are quarantined on arrival for two weeks. During this time, we treat for any health issues that may occur during transport and ensure each fish is eating well and looking healthy. All fish are treated with Flubendazole before finally going on sale.
