Crypt affinis

These are not the plant for your new aquarium; they are the one you plant four to six months later. Crypts need stability. If you are one who rearranges your tank on the regular, these are not the plant for you.

From Malaysia, Affinis is one of the hardier Crypts (Cryptocoryne's) to keep. They have been staples in planted aquariums. Their leaves are a dark green above, a dark violet beneath and can grow 15 – 30 cm (6 – 12 inches) in length. But note, once planted, do not move them; they will not like it. They will respond with the famous, Crypt Melt. In a mature aquarium, they usually come back. In one that is new or in flux, it is not likely to survive. But no need to lose sleep over it! Once established, they are very hardy and will live a long life in your aquarium.
