Kuhli Loach

Kuhli Loach are a small peaceful species that suits most tankmates but some bigger fish may predate on them given the chance. They will often pack into a single nook, cranny or cave so a group of at least 5 - 6 should be the minimum purchased. They don't grow too large, reaching a size of approximately 10cm.

They are a scaleless fish so use a soft, sandy substrate because this species likes to dig and tends to spend some of its time completely buried. When coarser gravel is used it may become stressed or damaged. The use of plants and driftwood with no sharp edges, is also beneficial as they like to inhabit low light areas. Make sure the filter areas are kept clear as they will try to get in and will probably get stuck.

In the aquarium Kuhli Loach will accept any prepared dried foods like Omega One Freshwater Flake Food and JBL NovoTab but they should also be offered regular meals of live and frozen daphnia or bloodworms etc. Because they are nocturnal, it is best to feed in dim light or at night. They will also sift mouthfulls of the softer small sand through their gills to collect up the smaller insect larvae and crustaceans.

Kuhli Loach have been spawned within the home aquarium multiple times, often best results have been while using undergravel filtration systems.

Ideal water conditions would be around 24 - 28°C and 6.0 - 7.0pH.
