Pond Dye modifies the water column so red spectrum wavelengths are partly blocked. This interrupts the photosynthesis process thereby restricting submerged algae and weeds from growing.
I have not found this product satisfactory,it requires a much stronger concentration than the label suggests and it does not maintain the black colour for more than a few days
