The Blue Axelrodi is a radiant tropical fish relative to the well-loved Neon Tetra. This exquisite species is native to Southeast Asia's warm, tropical waters, particularly in the Greater Sunda Islands of Borneo and Sumatra, including the Riau Archipelago and Bangka Island.

With iridescent blue bodies, these aquatic gems are truly a sight to behold. They feature a contrasting horizontal stripe of blue-green colour that adds to their visual appeal. The fins of Blue Axelrodi exhibit a beautiful orange tint that further enhances their overall aesthetics.

These fish are known for their peaceful behaviour, making them an ideal addition to any community tank. Their non-aggressive nature allows them to coexist harmoniously with other species, adding a layer of tranquillity to your aquarium.

Breeding Blue Axelrodi can be a delightful experience. Keeping a group of 20-30 specimens in a densely planted tank with a soft, sandy substrate is advisable. The water conditions should be acidic, with a pH range of 4.0-6.5, and a temperature range in the lower regions of of 23-26°C. Feeding them small live or frozen foods such as Artemia nauplii, Daphnia, grindal, micro, and chopped bloodworms will help maintain their vibrant colours and condition them for breeding.

Maintaining a balanced aquarium is crucial to keeping these fish healthy. Regular, small water changes are recommended as Blue Axelrodi are sensitive to fluctuations in water chemistry. Simulating blackwater conditions using leaves and real peat fibre can greatly benefit these fish. A dimly lit tank with aquatic plants that can survive under such conditions is ideal, as these fish prefer less bright environments.

The Blue Axelrodi is a magnificent tropical fish species that brings beauty and serenity to any aquarium. Their striking colours, peaceful nature, and unique features make them a favourite among hobbyists. By providing the right environment, nutrition, and stable water conditions, you can ensure these wonderful creatures thrive and continue to enchant you with their beauty.
