The Glowlight Danio is one of the most popular Danios in the hobby due to their versatility, compatibility and visual impact when placed in a heavily planted aquarium. A natural schooling fish that, when kept in decent numbers, looks very nice.

On observing the Glowlight Danio for any length of time, we can easily notice that they are very active. When in a group, they will swim almost constantly and while we like to think of them as peaceful fish, which they are, they can however be seen to nip the fins of tankmates from time to time. For these reasons, we would suggest avoiding keeping them with long-finned fishes such as Guppies, Angelfish and Betta splendens.

Being a hill stream species, they are comfortable with lots of flow, rocks and gravel. Additionally, aquatic plants are not something found in abundance in their natural habitat however we recommend adding lots of plants to their aquarium which helps to showcase their colours.

Another appealing feature of the Glowlight Danio is its diet. When it comes to feeding, these little fish will eat almost anything you provide for them. We recommend a mixture of quality flake food, along with high protein granules. For the best colour and health, it is advised to offer some live foods like daphnia.

The Glowlight Danio,  is a prolific breeder, producing hundreds of eggs every other week. They do so by scattering their fertilised eggs. To breed successfully, it is advised to set up a separate aquarium with some thin-leaved plants and shallow water and larger grained gravel to allow eggs to fall between and out of the reach of their parents. Achieve a water temperature of 25c to trigger spawning and remove adults once

All our fish are quarantined on arrival for two weeks. During this time, they are treated for any possible diseases and given a complete health check  to make sure they are health, happy and eating well before being placed in our display aquariums, ready for sale.

Dead on Arrival (DOA) Policy: In the unfortunate event that your fish arrives dead, please follow these steps: Within 12 hours of the delivery, take clear, unopened bag pictures showing the deceased fish. Send these photographs and your order number to our customer service email at getfish@thefishroom.co.nz or to our Facebook page and we will then offer a refund or store credit for the cost of the fish.

Two-Week Guarantee Policy: We stand behind the health and quality of our fish, which is why we offer a two-week guarantee starting from the day of delivery. If your fish dies within this time frame, adhere to the following procedure: Take clear photos of the deceased fish. Using a reliable test kit, document via a dated photo, water parameters (pH, ammonia, nitrate, nitrite levels). Please email us the photographs, water parameters, and order number to getfish@thefishroom.co.nz or our Facebook page. After reviewing your claim, if approved, we will issue a store credit for the cost of the fish. Our two-week guarantee does not cover fish deaths due to unsuitable water conditions, incompatible tank mates or “disasters” i.e. a heater overheating. We recommend thoroughly researching each fish species' needs before introducing them to your aquarium to prevent such situations.
